Ciel illuminé / Cielo non illuminato

Ciel illuminé / Cielo non illuminato consists of a faithful reproduction of Horace-Bénédict de Saussure’s cyanometer on the interior walls of the Mont Blanc Tunnel.
The Brognon Rollin project originated from the idea of making the mountain disappear, at least conceptually, while at the same time providing a point of reference for drivers travelling through the tunnel by indicating their approach to the exit. The work stems from Stéphanie Rollin’s profound claustrophobia, which she experiences every time she travels through the tunnel, and from the discussions she had with David Brognon about how to make the experience more bearable. Ciel illuminé / Cielo non illuminato is a precise translation of a historical fact, filtered through a personal experience that transforms it into a poetic gesture.
