STAIRS. “THE GREAT REFUSAL”
As we make our way up the virtual stairs that usually connect the exhibition floors of art institutions and exhibition venues, we take the time to reflect on a fact relating to the material collected over the past year: the MoRE curators encountered a number of refusals and negative responses to their requests for donations.
Without listing the names of those who did not donate to the museum, it is interesting to note here that the reasons essentially fall into two categories. A first group of artists stated that they had no unrealised works; a second group replied that they were not interested in the unrealised, considering the moment of encounter between the work and its audience to be fundamental to the work’s very existence.
